DMACC volleyball team suffers first loss of the season

Hawkeye Community College (HCC) handed the Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC) volleyball team its first loss of the season, 3-1, September 5 at Waterloo, ending the Bears' six-match winning streak.

 

Set scores were 19-25, 17-25, 25-23, 18-25.

 

HCC, ranked 19th in the most recent Division II poll from the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA), improved to 10-1 overall and 2-0 in the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC).  DMACC, ranked fifth in the poll, fell to 6-1 overall and 1-1 in the conference.

 

Freshman Amber Dilsaver of Fort Madison and sophomore Madison Paulsen of Council Bluffs led DMACC with 12 and 10 kills respectively. Sophomore Peyton Parker of La Porte City and freshman Tahj Haire of Rockford, Ill., had eight kills apiece and sophomore Lacey Clark of Bettendorf finished with five kills.

 

The Bears hit .170 in the loss, getting 44 kills from 141 attacks with 20 hitting errors.

 

Sophomore Gill Tupper of Nevada led DMACC in assists with 28 and freshman Cailey Schaa of Council Bluffs had 23. Freshman Daiton Martin of Essex topped the Bears in digs with 27, Paulsen had 19 and freshman Keimoney Lang of Iowa City came away with 15 digs to go with two ace serves. Dilsaver led DMACC in blocks with four block assists and Clark had three block assists.

 

The DMACC volleyball team will play in the Yellowjacket Volleyball Invite today at Rochester, Minn. The Bears will face Madison Community College (MCC) in their tournament opener, followed by a match against Rochester Community and Technical College (RCTC).
