DMACC volleyball team tops IHCC, 3-2, in season opener

Freshman Amanda Dilsaver of Fort Madison had 11 kills as the Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC) volleyball team opened the 2018 season with a 3-2 win over Indian Hills Community College (IHCC) August 22 at Ottumwa.

 

Set scores were 21-25, 25-23, 26-24, 17-25, 15-8.

 

The win was the 714th of head coach Patty Harrison's career. Harrison is ranked second in career victories in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA).

 

Sophomore Madison Paulsen of Council Bluffs had seven kills and sophomores Lacey Clark of Bettendorf and Peyton Parker of La Porte City contributed five kills apiece to the win.

 

Freshman Cailey Schaa of Council Bluffs led the Bears in assists with 16 and also had a pair of ace serves. Freshman Daiton Martin of Essex topped DMACC in digs with 23 and sophomore Gillian Tupper of Nevada had 11 digs and two ace serves. Schaa and Paulsen had nine digs apiece and freshman Keimoney Lang of Iowa City had eight. Clark topped DMACC in blocks with five, including four block assists.

 

The DMACC volleyball team will play in the Waubonsee Tournament August 24 and 25 at Naperville, Ill. The Bears will face Muskegon Community College (MCC) and Henry Ford Community College (HFCC) on Aug. 24 and will play Madison Community College (MCC) and Moraine Valley Community College (MVCC) on Aug. 25. Muskegon Community College is ranked 20th in NJCAA Division II poll and Madison Community College is ranked eighth in NJCAA Division III.
