Paulsen, Rieck Lead DMACC Volleyball Team Past NIACC, 3-0

Freshman Madison Paulsen of Council Bluffs had 10 kills and sophomore Lauren Rieck of Ankeny added nine as the Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC) volleyball team handed North Iowa Area Community College (NIACC) a 3-0 loss September 20 at Mason City.

 

Set scores were 25-17, 25-12, 25-11 as the Bears improved to 9-5 overall and 2-1 in the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) with their third consecutive victory. DMACC, ranked 20th in the most recent Division II poll from the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA), hit an impressive .407 in the match, getting 30 kills from 54 attacks with just eight hitting errors.

 

Sophomore Leiah Paustian of Marshalltown had 30 assists in the win, sophomore Rachael Bair of Braddyville contributed three ace serves and Paustian and freshman Peyton Parker of La Porte City had two ace serves apiece.

 

Freshman Gill Tupper of Nevada topped the Bears in digs with nine and Paustian, Rieck and freshman Brianna Harvey of Dysart led the way in blocks with three apiece.

 

The DMACC volleyball team will be in Champaign, Ill., today and Sept. 23 for the Parkland Volleyball Tournament. DMACC opponents in the tournament include second-ranked Owens Community College (OCC), sixth-ranked Illinois Central College (ICC) and eighth-ranked Lincoln Land Community College (LLCC). The Bears dropped a 3-0 decision to OCC. earlier this season.
