DMACC women's golf team wins Waldorf Challenge
  • Bears win their first tournament of the fall season
  • DMACC shoots a 359 to finish 17 strokes ahead of Waldorf University
  • Freshmen Meg Thompson and Erin Winker have top ten finishes

 

After a pair of runner-up finishes, the DMACC women's golf tournament captured its first team championship of the fall season in the Waldorf Challenge Sept. 25 at Rice Lake Country Club in Lake Mills.

 

Sophomore Ashley Michel of Nassau, Bahamas, led the Bears to the title with an 11-over-par 83 and shared medalist honors with Amanda Karvala of Waldorf University (WU). DMACC shot a 359 in the 18-hole tournament and finished 17 strokes in front of WU.

 

Michel's title was her third in as many tournaments this fall.

 

Two other DMACC golfers, freshmen Meg Thompson of Greene and Erin Winker of Carroll, joined Michel with top 10 finishes. Thompson posted a 90 and finished eighth and Winker tied for ninth with a 91.

 

Other DMACC scores included a 95 by sophomore Dani Nolde of Ogallala, Neb., a 96 by freshman Kaylin Petrak of Grimes and a 134 by freshman Rylee Roberts of Pleasant Hill. Nolde tied for 12th, Petrak tied for 15th and Roberts finished in 54th place.

 

The DMACC women's golf team will close out the fall season in the Grand View Invite Oct. 10 and 11 at the Otter Creek Golf Club in Ankeny.
