Jensen Archibald of Martensdale-St. Marys High School has signed a national letter of intent to attend Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC) and play women's basketball.

Archibald is the sixth commitment to the DMACC women's basketball program for the 2020-21 school year. Other signees are Emily Caspers of West Fork High School in Sheffield, Grace Flanagan of North Linn High School in Coggon, Jenna Bohaty of Millard West High School in Omaha, Neb., Karlyn Snider of West Marshall High School in State Center and Camry Jones of Okoboji High School in Milford.

Archibald, a guard, said she chose DMACC because of the student housing and because the school's location is close to her home.

"DMACC is also close to Iowa State (University) where some of my friends will be going," Archibald said. "Everyone I have talked to at DMACC has been super nice and welcoming."

Archibald said she is also attracted to the school because of the community atmosphere and because of accountability.

"I felt a sense of community during my visit and that sense has remained present throughout my communications (with DMACC)," Archibald said. "I also get a strong impression that students and student-athletes are held accountable for their success and are given many resources to help them succeed."

Archibald said attending DMACC will help her further her athletic plans and goals.

"I know the coaches will do their best to make me marketable for what comes after DMACC as well," Archibald said.

Archibald has helped Martensdale-St. Marys to a 7-2 record this season, averaging 17.8 points and 3.8 rebounds a game. She is shooting 46 percent from the field, having made 67 of 145 field goal attempts. Archibald is 12-of-31 from three-point range and 14-of-25 from the free throw line. Her season also includes 34 rebounds, including 23 defensive rebounds, 38 assists, 33 steals and two blocked shots.

Archibald is a four-year starter in basketball and has earned all-conference recognition as a freshman, sophomore and junior. She is a two-time all-region selectee and a two-time all-district selectee.

Archibald is also a three-year starter in track, a four-year starter in cross country and a two-year starter in softball. She has been named to the school honor roll throughout her high school career.
