Three members of the Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC) women's basketball team have been honored by the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC).
Freshman Riley Gatton of Montezuma has been named to the ICCAC First All-Conference team, sophomore Asia Mena of Chicago, Ill., earned second-team honors and freshman Jada Powell of Des Moines was named to the third team.
Gatton led the Bears in scoring with 384 points, averaging 11.6 points a game. She shot 39 percent from the field, hitting 128 of 326 field goal attempts. Gatton was 48-of-152 from three-point range for 32 percent and 44-of-71 from the free throw line for 62 percent. Her season also included 116 rebounds, 39 assists, 36 steals and 13 blocked shots.
Mena finished third in scoring with 232 points. She averaged 8.3 points a game and shot 43 percent from the field, connecting on 90 of 211 field goal attempts. Mena was 33-of-94 from three-point range for 35 percent and 19-of-30 from the free throw line for 63 percent. Mena's season also included 87 rebounds, a team-high 71 assists and 35 steals.
Powell led the ICCAC in rebounding with 243 rebounds and a 9.7 average. She was second in scoring with 243 points, averaging 9.7 points a game. Powell shot 36 percent from the field, making 98 of 276 field goal attempts. Powell was 17-of-63 from three-point range for 27 percent and 30-of-61 from the free throw line for 49 percent. Powell's 243 rebonds included 187 defensive rebounds and she finished the season with 28 assists, 21 steals and 18 blocked shots.
The DMACC women's basketball team finished the season at 10-20. The Bears were 4-12 in the ICCAC, finishing seventh in the league standings.
