DMACC women's basketball team win streak halted by KCC

The Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC) women's basketball team saw its six-game winning streak end following a 76-63 loss to Kirkwood Community College (KCC) Feb. 21 inside the DMACC gymnasium.

 

KCC led throughout the game. The Eagles had a 20-18 advantage at the end of the first quarter and a 39-31 lead at halftime. They pushed their lead to 58-47 at the end of the third quarter.

 

The loss dropped the Bears to 14-12 overall and 9-4 in the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC).

 

Sophomores Aliyah Robinson of Waterloo and Ellie Horn of Newton led DMACC with 17 and 14 points respectively. The Bears shot 36 percent, making 24 of 66 field goal attempts. They were 7-of-30 from three-point range and 8-of-16 from the free throw line.

 

DMACC came away with a 41-35 advantage on the boards with Horn getting a double-double with 10 rebounds. Freshman Asia Mena of Chicago, Ill., led the Bears in assists with five and Robinson and freshman Shailece Porter of Walt Hill, Neb., dished our four assists apiece.

 

The DMACC will play North Iowa Area Community College (NIACC) Feb. 25 at Mason City. The game was originally scheduled for Feb. 23, but has been moved to Feb. 25 because of weather issues scheduled for Feb. 23. The Trojans are 21-5 overall and 12-1 in the ICCAC. They defeated DMACC 110-85 when the two teams played Jan. 16 inside the DMACC gymnasium
