Robinson, Porter lead DMACC women's basketball team past ILCC

Sophomore Aliyah Robinson of Waterloo scored 16 points and freshman Shailece Porter of Walthill, Neb., added 15 points as the Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC) women's basketball team defeated Iowa Lakes Community College (ILCC), 77-68, Feb. 13 at Estherville.

 

Sophomore Grace Stalzer of Zearing also reached double figures with 12 points as the Bears improved to 13-11 overall and 8-3 in the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) with their fifth consecutive victory.

 

DMACC led 16-12 at the end of the first quarter and 32-30 at halftime. The two teams were deadlocked at 47 at the end of the third quarter.

 

The Bears shot 40 percent in securing their second win of the season over the Lakers. They were 24-of-60 from the field, including 5-of-15 from three-point range, and 24-of-32 from the free throw line.

 

Sophomore Ellie Horn of Newton had nine rebounds to go with nine points, Robinson came away with eight rebounds and sophomore Emma Rouse of Boone had six as DMACC out rebounded the Lakers, 53-45. Porter led the Bears in assists and steals with four each.

 

The DMACC women's basketball team will face Southeastern Community College (SECC), Feb. 16 inside the DMACC gymnasium. Game time is 1 p.m. SECC, which defeated the Bears, 73-71, Dec. 8 at Keokuk, is 15-10 overall and 5-6 in the ICCAC.
