DMACC's Ellie Horn named ICCAC Athlete of the Week

The Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) has named Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC) women's basketball player Ellie Horn the ICCAC Athlete of the Week for Division II women's basketball for the week of February 4 to 10.

 

Horn, a sophomore from Newton, is the first DMACC women's basketball player to be honored by the conference this season.

 

Horn helped the Bears to wins over Southwestern Community College (SWCC) and Ellsworth Community College (ECC), scoring a total of 32 points and coming away with 10 rebounds. She shot 51 percent from the field in the two wins, hitting 15 of 29 field goal attempts. Horn scored 18 points and grabbed four rebounds in an 86-77 win over SWCC and recorded a double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds in a 68-54 win over ECC.

 

Horn is averaging nine points and six rebounds a game for the Bears this season. She is shooting 48 percent from the field, having made 90 of 186 field goal attempts, ranking fourth in the ICCAC in field goal shooting. She has scored 204 points this season. She has 138 rebounds, including 87 defensive rebounds. Her season also includes 13 assists, 10 steals and a conference-leading 38 blocked shots.

 

The DMACC women's basketball team, 12-11 overall and 7-3 in the ICCAC, faces Iowa Lakes Community College (ILCC) tonight at Estherville. The Bears will be seeking their fifth consecutive victory.
