Robinson's 20 points lifts DMACC women past ICCC, 80-72

Sophomore Aliyah Robinson of Waterloo scored 20 points to lead the Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC) women's basketball team to an 80-72 win over Iowa Central Community College (ICCC) Jan. 26 at Fort Dodge.

 

Freshman Asia Mena of Chicago, Ill., freshman Sameria Jackson of Houston, Texas, and sophomore Ellie Horn of Newton also reached double figures with 12, 11 and 10 points respectively as the Bears improved to 9-11 overall and 4-3 in the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC).

 

ICCC led throughout the game, including 22-21 at the end of the first quarter, 40-37 at halftime and 62-61 at the end of the third quarter. DMACC outscored the Tritons 19-10 in the fourth period to come away with the win.

 

The Bears shot 48 percent, hitting 28 of 59 field goal attempts. They were 10-of-16 from three-point range and 14-of-21 from the free throw line.

 

Sophomore Grace Stalzer of Zearing grabbed 11 rebounds to lift DMACC to a 36-34 advantage on the boards. Horn came away with nine rebounds and Robinson added six. Mena led DMACC in assists with five and freshman Hannah McKinney of Des Moines came away with four.

 

The DMACC women's basketball team will host Little Priest Tribal (LPT) Jan. 30 inside the DMACC gymnasium. LPT is 10-9 overall and 2-5 in the ICCAC. The game has been moved to 2 p.m. from 5:30 p.m. due to dangerous windchills predicted in the evening.
