DMACC women's basketball team falls to Briar Cliff JV, 73-68

The DMACC women's basketball team fell to 8-11 for the season following a 73-68 loss to the Briar Cliff University junior varsity (BCUJV) January 21 inside the DMACC gymnasium.

 

BCUJV led most of the way, including 21-17 at the end of the first quarter. DMACC had a 35-34 advantage at halftime and BCUJV held a 51-50 advantage at the end of the third quarter.

 

DMACC was led by freshman Shailece Porter of Walthill, Neb., who scored 16 points. Freshman Asia Mena of Chicago, Ill., and sophomore Aliyah Robinson of Waterloo had 12 points apiece and sophomore Ellie Horn of Newton tallied 10 points.

 

The Bears shot 36 percent, draining 24 of 67 field goal attempts. They were 9-of-29 from three-point range and 11-of-15 from the free throw line.

 

BCUJV had a 37-33 advantage on the boards with sophomore Grace Stalzer of Zearing grabbing 11 rebounds to lead DMACC. Horn came away with eight rebounds and Porter led the Bears in assists with six. Mena and Robinson had three steals apiece and Horn blocked two shots.

 

The DMACC women's basketball team will face Iowa Central Community College (ICCC) January 26 at Fort Dodge. The Tritons are 9-11 overall and 2-3 in the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC). DMACC has a 3-3 record in league play.
