DMACC women's basketball team falls to KCC, 66-37

The Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC) women's basketball team began the new year with a disappointing 66-37 loss to Kirkwood Community College (KCC) January 11 at Cedar Rapids.

 

Sophomore Aliyah Robinson of Waterloo scored 14 points as the Bear fell to 6-9 overall and 1-2 in the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) with their third consecutive defeat.

 

KCC led throughout the game. The Eagles were up 14-10 at the end of the first quarter and 22-17 at halftime. They took control in the third period when they outscored the Bears 30-13 to open up a 52-30 advantage heading into the fourth quarter.

 

DMACC shot 30 percent, making 14 of 46 field goal attempts. The Bears were 5-of-18 from three-point range and 4-of-5 from the free throw line.

 

KCC had a 40-20 advantage in rebounding with freshman Sameria Jackson of Houston, Texas, leading the Bears with six rebounds. Freshman Asia Mena of Chicago, Ill., led DMACC in assists with three and in steals with six.

 

The DMACC women's basketball team will host Iowa Lakes Community College (ILCC) Jan. 12. The Lakers, coached by former DMACC assistant coach Ashley Martin, are 14-2 overall and 2-0 in the ICCAC. Game time is 1 p.m. inside the DMACC gymnasium.
