DMACC women's basketball team falls to KCKCC, 83-56

Freshman Asia Mena of Chicago, Ill., scored 11 points and sophomores Aliyah Robinson of Waterloo and Grace Stalzer of Zearing and freshman Sameria Jackson of Houston, Texas, tallied eight points apiece as the Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC) women's basketball team fell to Kansas City (Kan.) Community College (KCKCC), 83-56, December 14 at Kansas City, Kan.

 

The loss was the eight of the season for the Bears against six victories.

 

KCKCC had a 22-17 advantage at the end of the first quarter, led 42-29 at halftime and held a 61-46 lead at the end of the third quarter.

 

DMACC shot 28 percent in the loss, making 22 of 76 field goal attempts. The Bears were 4-of-17 from three-point range and 8-of-17 from the free throw line.

 

KCKCC had a 58-41 advantage in rebounding with Stalzer's eight rebounds leading the Bears. Jackson and sophomore Emma Rouse of Boone had six rebounds apiece. Mena and freshman Shailece Porter of Walthill, Neb., had three assists apiece and Porter led the DMACC in steals with three.

 

The DMACC women's basketball team is idle until Jan. 9 when the Bears face Kirkwood Community College (KCC) at Cedar Rapids. The Eagles, ranked 11th in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division II poll, are 9-4 overall and 2-0 in the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC). DMACC is 1-1 in league play.
