DMACC women's basketball team tops SENEB, 85-70

Freshman Shailece Porter of Walthill, Neb., came off the bench to score 15 points and lead the Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC) women's basketball team to an 85-70 win over Southeast (Neb.) Community College (SENEB) December 1 inside the DMACC gymnasium.

 

Sophomore Aliyah Robinson of Waterloo scored 14 points, sophomore Emma Rouse of Boone had 11 and sophomore Ellie Horn of Newton and freshman Asia Mena of Chicago, Ill., finished with 10 points apiece as the Bears improved to 5-6 for the season.

 

The Bears led throughout the game in defeating SENEB for the second time this season. They were up 24-19 at the end of the first quarter, 39-28 at halftime and 62-49 at the end of the third quarter.

 

DMACC shot 43 percent in the win, connecting on 31-of-73 field goal attempts. The Bears were 11-of-32 from three-point range and 12-of-17 from the free throw line.

 

Sophomore Grace Stalzer of Zearing grabbed 13 rebounds to lead DMACC to 52 rebounds in the game. Freshman Sameria Jackson of Houston, Texas, had nine rebounds and Mena came away with seven rebounds. Mena and Porter dished out seven and six assists respectively and Mena, Rouse and Porter had two steals apiece.

 

The DMACC women's basketball team will face Southwestern Community College (SWCC) in the Bears' Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) opener Dec. 5 inside the DMACC gymnasium. Game time is 5:30 p.m. SWCC is 6-4 for the season and has won its last three games.
