DMACC women's basketball team downed by KCKCC, 79-52

Kansas City (Kan.) Community College (KCKCC) overcame a 14-13 deficit at the end of the first quarter to defeat the Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC) women's basketball team, 79-52, November 13 inside the DMACC gymnasium.

 

KCKCC, ranked seventh in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division II poll, outscored DMACC 18-12 in the second quarter for a 31-21 halftime advantage and led the rest of the way. KCKCC led 55-43 at the end of the third quarter.

 

Sophomore Aliyah Robinson of Waterloo led DMACC with 10 points. Sophomore Grace Stalzer of Zearing had eight points and freshman Sameria Jackson of Houston, Texas, tallied seven points.

 

DMACC shot just 25 percent in falling to 3-3 for the season. The Bears made 18 of 72 field goal attempts, including 5-of-20 from three-point range. They were 11-of-16 from the free throw line.

 

KCKCC had a 60-41 advantage in rebounding with Stalzer's 11 rebounds leading DMACC. Sophomore Emma Rouse of Boone led the Bears in assists with three and Robinson and freshman Jadyn Shonka of Nora Springs had three steals apiece. Sophomore Ellie Horn of Newton contributed a pair of blocked shots.

 

The DMACC women's basketball team will play in the Emerson Classic Nov. 16 and 17 at Marshalltown. The Bears will face Moberly Area Community College (MACC) on Nov. 16 and will play Central (Neb.) Community College (CENEB) on Nov. 17.
