DMACC women's basketball team drops 58-54 decision to SECC

The Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC) women's basketball team saw its season come to a close after falling to Southeastern Community College (SECC), 58-54, March 7 in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Region XI Division II Women's Basketball Tournament at Keokuk.

 

The Bears ended the season at 20-12 and were 7-7 in the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC).

 

The game was tied 11-11 at the end of the first quarter and SECC had a 28-23 lead at halftime. The Blackhawks were up by 12 at the end of the third quarter, 46-34.

 

DMACC led by 20 points from sophomore Molly Mitchell of Okoboji and 13 from freshman Deja Davis of Omaha, Neb., closed to within two points twice in the final three minutes, but got no closer. Mitchell and Davis recorded double-doubles in the game with 12 and 11 rebounds respectively.

 

The Bears shot 38 percent for the game, hitting 23 of 61 field goal attempts. They were 1-of-17 from three-point range and 7-of-9 from the free throw line.

 

Led by Mitchell and Davis, DMACC came away with a 47-32 advantage on the boards. Sophomore Beth Atwood of Packwood contributed eight rebounds and freshman Aliyah Robinson of Waterloo had seven. Sophomore Regan Shockley of Hartley led the Bears in assists with five.
