DMACC Women's Basketball Team Downed by ICCC, 59-54

The Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC) women's basketball team fell to 20-10 overall and 7-6 in the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) following a 59-54 loss to Iowa Central Community College (ICCC) February 28 at Fort Dodge.

 

Sophomores Regan Shockley of Hartley and Molly Mitchell of Okoboji scored 14 and 13 points respectively as the Bears dropped both games in their regular season series with the Tritons.

 

DMACC trailed 15-13 at the end of the first quarter, but led 25-22 at halftime and 40-37 after three quarters. The Bears shot 32 percent, hitting 19 of 59 field goal attempts, including 4-of-23 from three-point range. They were 12 of 20 from the free throw line.

 

ICCC came away with a 47-36 advantage on the boards with freshman Deja Davis of Omaha, Neb., hauling down nine rebounds to lead DMACC. Sophomore Beth Atwood of Packwood had eight rebounds, freshman Ellie Horn of Newton finished with five and Mitchell and freshman Eliyah Robinson of Waterloo grabbed four apiece. Robinson topped the Bears in assists and steals with six and four respectively.

 

The DMACC women's basketball team closes out the regular season against Kirkwood Community College (KCC) March 3 inside the DMACC gymnasium. Game time is 1 p.m. KCC, the defending national champion in Division II of the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA), is 27-3 overall and 13-0 in the ICCAC. The Eagles are currently ranked second in NJCAA Division II and have won their last 17 games. They defeated DMACC 84-45 when the two teams played Feb. 3 at Cedar Rapids.
