Mitchell Leads DMACC Women  Past MCC, 65-55

Sophomore Molly Mitchell of Okoboji led three players in double figures with 20 points as the Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC) women's basketball team handed Marshalltown Community College (MCC) a 65-55 loss February 7 at Marshalltown.

 

Sophomores Regan Shockley of Hartley and Beth Atwood of Packwood scored 14 and 10 points respectively as the Bears improved to 18-6 for the season.

 

DMACC led throughout the game. The Bears were ahead 13-11 at the end of the first quarter and stretched their advantage to 33-26 at halftime. MCC used an 11-5 run in the third period to close to 38-37 heading into the fourth quarter.

 

DMACC shot 37 percent in the win, making 22 of 59 shots from the field, including 7-of-21 from three-point range. The Bears were 14-of-19 from the free throw line.

 

Mitchell and sophomore Deja Davis of Omaha, Neb., pulled down six rebounds apiece as DMACC came away with a 35-32 advantage on the boards. Atwood and sophomore Joniqua Clark of Cedar Rapids had five rebounds apiece and Clark paced the Bears in assists with eight. Shockley and Davis topped DMACC in steals with three apiece.

 

The DMACC women's basketball team will host Ellsworth Community College (ECC) February 10. Game time is 1 p.m. inside the DMACC gymnasium. The Bears are 5-2 in the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC). ECC is 7-15 overall and 1-6 in the league. DMACC defeated the Panthers 82-66 when the two teams played Jan. 13 at Iowa Falls.
