DMACC Women Tops Mount Mercy JV, 72-49

Five players scored in double figures as the Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC) women's basketball team handed the Mount Mercy University junior varsity a 72-49 loss January 7 at Cedar Rapids.

 

Sophomores Joniqua Clark of Cedar Rapids and Regan Shockley of Hartley led the Bears with 14 points apiece. Sophomore Molly Mitchell of Okoboji had 11 points and freshman Aliyah Robinson of Waterloo finished with 10 points as the Bears improved to 12-3 for the season.

 

DMACC, ranked 17th in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division II poll, led throughout the game. The Bears had a 23-11 advantage at the end of the first quarter and led 38-25 at halftime. They were up 56-35 at the end of the third quarter.

 

DMACC shot 37 percent in getting the win, hitting 28 of 75 field goal attempts, including 9-of-27 from three-point range. The Bears were 7-of-9 from the free throw line.

 

Mitchell finished with a double-double as she grabbed 10 rebounds to lead DMACC to a 53-37 advantage on the boards. Robinson and sophomore Beth Atwood of Packwood had nine rebounds apiece and freshman Grace Stalzer of Zearing finished with seven. Clark led DMACC in assists and steals with four and three respectively.

 

The DMACC women's basketball team will face the Grand View University junior varsity Jan. 9 at Des Moines.
