DMACC's Macy Blomgren named ICCAC Pitcher of the Week
  • Blomgren closed out three wins for the Bears during the week
  • Blomgren allowed an unearned run, five hits and had 10 strikeouts in five and a third innings
  • Blomgren struck out three batters in preserving a 2-1 win over NIACC

 

The Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) has named DMACC's Macy Blomgren the ICCAC Athlete of the Week for Division II Softball (pitching) for the Week of April 28 to May 4.

 

Blomgren, a sophomore from Waukee, is being honored by the ICCAC for the second time this season and she is one of nine members of the DMACC softball team to be honored this season. Blomgren was also honored the week of Feb. 10 to 16.

 

Ella Husak, a freshman from Polk City, Bri Tigges, a freshman from Urbandale, Erin Ades, a freshman from Boone, Breanna Caffery, a sophomore from Bettendorf, Macee Reilling, a freshman from Dallas Center, and Hilary Wilson, a sophomore from Solon, have all been honored for their hitting with Husak having been honored twice.

 

Freshman Jacki Baas of Bondurant and Kierra Jungers of Fonda, join Blomgren in being honored for their pitching with Jungers earning the honor five times.

 

Blomgren made three relief appearances in three games as the Bears went 3-0 in winning their 10th consecutive regional championship May 2 to 4 at the DMACC softball diamond. She pitched five and a third innings, allowing one unearned run, five hits and striking out 10 batters.

 

Blomgren pitched one inning in an 8-4 win over Hawkeye Community College (HCC) in DMACC's tournament opener on May 2. She allowed an unearned run on two hits with one strikeout.

 

Blomgren pitched an inning and a third in a 2-1 win over North Iowa Area Community College (NIACC) in the tournament semifinals on May 3, striking out all three batters she faced in the seventh inning.

 

Blomgren was in the circle for three innings in a 5-3 win over NIACC in the championship game on May 4, allowing no hits and striking out six batters.

 

Blomgren is 7-0 with three saves, one complete game and a 2.27 earned run average this season. She has pitched 64 and two-thirds innings, allowing 26 runs, 21 earned runs, on 40 hits. Blomgren has struck out 101 batters and walked 29. She is averaging 10.93 strikeouts per seven innings and 1.07 walks and hits per inning.

 

The DMACC softball team, 53-5 and ranked fourth in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division II poll, will host Dawson Community College (DCC) in the Northwest Plains District Softball Tournament May 9 and 10.  The two teams will play a doubleheader on May 9 and a single game, if necessary, on May 10. The winner of the best 2-of-3 series advances to the 2025 NJCAA Division II Softball World Series May 19 to 24 at Choccolocco Park in Oxford, Ala.

 

DMACC is seeking its 10th consecutive district championship and its 10th consecutive appearance in the national tournament.
