DMACC's Josie Swafford named ICCAC DII Pitcher of the Week for third consecutive week

The Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) has named Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC) softball player Josie Swafford the ICCAC Division II Pitcher of the Week for the week of May 6 to 12.

 

Swafford, a freshman from Chocotaw, Okla., earned the honor for the third consecutive week and for the seventh time this season. She was also named ICCAC Division II Pitcher of the Week for the weeks of March 4 to 10, March 11 to 17, March 25 to 31 and April 8 to 14.

 

Swafford went 3-0 while pitching the Bears to the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Region XI-A championship for the third consecutive season. DMACC recorded a victory over Northeast (Neb.) Community College (NENEB)  and two wins against Iowa Central Community College (ICCC) en route to the title.

 

Swafford pitched a five-inning no-hitter in an 8-0 win against NENEB, striking out seven batters. She allowed three runs on five hits, struck out eight and walked three in a  5-3 win over ICCC and allowed one hit, struck out six and walked two in an 8-0 win over ICCC.

 

Through the NJCAA Region XI-A tournament, Swafford is 24-1 with a 0.95 earned run average and three saves. She has pitched 155 and a third innings, allowing 25 run (21 earned runs) on 76 hits. Swafford has struck out 215 batters, walked 39 and is averaging 9.69 strikeouts per seven innings.

 

Swafford leads the ICCAC in earned run average and is second in wins and second in strikeouts.

 

Swafford has helped herself at the plate with a .431 batting average, a .504 on-base percentage and a .686 slugging percentage. She has 44 hits in 102 at-bats, including 10 doubles, two triples and four home runs. Swafford has driven in 43 runs and scored 31 runs.
