DMACC's Morgan Nealey, Bailey Richards and Molly Jacobsen earn all-tournament honors

Morgan Nealey, Bailey Richards and Molly Jacobsen named All-Tournament Team.

Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC) softball players Morgan Nealey, Bailey Richards and Molly Jacobsen were named to the all-tournament team announced at the conclusion of the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division II Softball Championship May 16 to 19 at Clinton, Miss.

 

Nealey, a freshman from Urbandale, was named the All-Tournament Designated Player and the Outstanding Offensive Player. Richards, a sophomore from Des Moines, was named to the All-Tournament Battery and Jacobsen, a sophomore from Adel, was named the Outstanding Pitcher of the Tournament.

 

DMACC, making its fifth consecutive appearance in the tournament and its sixth appearance in the past seven seasons, finished third, matching a third-place finish by the 2013-14 team.

 

Nealey collected six hits in 18 at-bats in six tournament games for a .333 batting averaged. She scored four runs, drove in nine runs and her six hits included a double and three home runs.

 

Richards, one of the top catchers in the country recorded 73 putouts in tournament play and finished the season with a .995 fielding percentage.

 

Jacobsen pitched 30.1 innings in the tournament, allowing nine runs, including eight earned runs, on 21 hits. She struck out 61 batters and did not issue a base on balls. Jacobsen also hit .500 in DMACC's six tournament games, going 8-for-16. She scored two runs, drove in three runs and belted one home run.

 

The DMACC softball team closed the season at 48-2 and a 22-0 record in winning the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC). The Bears won their first 46 games of the season and were the No. 1 team in the NJCAA Division II poll for most of the season.
