DMACC's Bailey Richards named ICCAC DII Position Player of the Week

The Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) has named Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC) softball player Bailey Richards the ICCAC Division II Position Player of the Week for the week of April 30 to May 6.

 

Richards, a sophomore from Des Moines, is the fourth DMACC player to earn the honor this season. Freshman Avery Guy of Cedar Rapids earned the honor for the week of Feb. 12 to 18; freshman Morgan Nealey of Urbandale earned the honor the weeks of  March 26 to April 1 and April 23 to 29; and freshman Kaisha Wells of Topeka, Kan., earned the honor for the week of April 9 to 15.

 

Richards, a catcher, batted .667 with a double, two home runs, six runs batted in and four runs scored in helping the Bears to 21-0 and 17-0 wins over Iowa Lakes Community College (ILCC) in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division II Region XI-A softball championship.

 

For the season, Richards is batting .434 with a .527 on-base percentage and a .670 slugging percentage. She has 46 hits in 106 at-bats, including 10 doubles and five home runs. She has driven in 29 runs and scored 36 runs.

 

Defensively, Richards is fielding 1.000 with no errors in 338 changes. She has 321 putouts and 17 assists.

 

The DMACC softball team will host Dawson Community College (DCC) in the NJCAA District H Softball Tournament May 10 and 11 at the DMACC softball tournament. The two teams will play a doubleheader on May 10 and will play a third game, if necessary, on May 11.

 

The NJCAA Division II District H champion will advance to the NJCAA Division II Softball Championship May 16 to 19 at Clinton, Miss. DMACC is seeking its fifth consecutive trip to the national tournament and its sixth trip in the past seven seasons
