Nealey Named ICCAC Position Player of the Week

The Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) has named Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC) softball player Morgan Nealey the ICCAC Division II Position Player of the Week for the week of April 23 to 29.

 

Nealey received the honor for the week of March 26 to April 1. DMACC freshmen Avery Guy of Cedar Rapids and Kaisha Wells of Topeka, Kan., have also been named Division II Position Player of the Week by the ICCAC.

 

Nealey played a key role in the Bears going 6-0 during the week with victories against Kirkwood Community College (KCC), Iowa Lakes Community College (ILCC) and North Iowa Area Community College (NIACC) to complete a 40-0 regular season, a 22-0 record in the ICCAC and a No. 1 national ranking in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division II poll.

 

Nealey batted .611 during the week, belting a pair of doubles and four home runs and driving in 17 runs. She ended the week with a .650 on-base percentage and a 1.389 slugging percentage.

 

Nealey completed the regular season with a .488 batting average, a .526 on-base percentage and a .870 slugging percentage. She had 60 hits in 123 at-bats and her hits included 11 doubles and 12 home runs, tying Wells for the team lead. She led the Bears in RBIs with 61 and scored 24 runs. Nealey is ranked third in the ICCAC in RBIs and batting average.

 

The DMACC softball team opens postseason play as the No. 1 seed in the NJCAA Region XI-A Softball Tournament, which begins May 4 at the DMACC softball diamond. The Bears will face either fourth-seeded ILCC or seventh-seeded Northeast (Neb.) Community College (NECC) in their first game. The double-elimination tournament continues May 5 with the championship game slated for 2 p.m. A second championship game, if necessary, would be played immediately following the first championship game.

 

The Region XI-A champion will advance to the District H tournament May 10 and 11 at the home of the Region XI-A champion.
