DMACC's Kaisha Wells Named ICCAC DII Player of the Week

Kaisha Wells Player of the Week

The Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) has named Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC) softball player Kaisha Wells the ICCAC Division II Softball Player of the Week for the Week of April 9 to 15.

 

Wells, a freshman from Topeka, Kan., is the third DMACC softball position player to be named ICCAC Player of the Week by the ICCAC. Freshman Avery Guy of Cedar Rapids earned the honor for the week of February 12 to 18 and freshman Morgan Nealey of Cedar Rapids received the honor for the week of March 26 to April 1.

 

Wells had six hits in 11 at-bats, scored two runs and drove in nine runs in helping the Bears to doubleheader sweeps of Kirkwood Community College (KCC) and Iowa Lakes Community College (ILCC). She was 3-for-5 with three RBIs as DMACC, ranked first in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division II poll, defeated second-ranked KCC by scores of 6-0 and 9-7. Wells as 3-for-6 with two runs scored and six RBIs in 11-0 and 4-3 wins over ILCC. Her six hits included a double and a home run.

 

For the season, Wells is hitting .458 with a .481 on-base percentage and a .958 slugging percentage. She has 33 hits in 72 at-bats, including 12 doubles and eight home runs. She has scored 13 runs and driven in 35 runs and leads the team in doubles, home runs and RBIs.

 

The DMACC softball team, 28-0 for the season, faces Ellsworth Community College (ECC) in a doubleheader April 20 at the DMACC softball diamond. ECC is 9-19 overall and 3-9 in the ICCAC.
