DMACC softball team pushes winning streak to 24 games by sweeping doubleheader against NECC

The Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC) softball team ran its winning streak to 24 consecutive games after sweeping a doubleheader against Northeast (Neb.) Community College (NECC) April 8 at Austin, Minn.

 

The Bears, ranked second in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division II poll, swept the series by scores of 8-0 and 11-2 to improve to 24-0 for the season and 6-0 in the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC). Both games were called after five innings because of the mercy rule.

 

Sophomore Molly Jacobsen of Adel tossed a one-hitter and struck out nine in the opener and freshmen Mia Ruther of Burlington and Morgan Nealey of Urbandale drove in three runs apiece to lead DMACC in the nightcap.

 

Jacobsen ran her record to 10-0 with the win in the opener. She faced just 16 batters, throwing 60 pitches, 44 of which were strikes.

 

Sophomore Bailey Richards of Des Moines paced the Bears at the plate with three hits, including a double, and Ruther and freshmen Avery Guy of Cedar Rapids and Kaisha Wells of Topeka, Kan., had two hits apiece, including a triple by Guy and a pair of doubles from Wells.

 

Freshman Kelsey Hora of Ainsworth had three hits and Ruther, Nealey, Wells and freshman Ellie Dixon of Iowa City had two hits apiece for DMACC in the second game. Sophomore Bre Hunter of Boone drove in a pair of runs and Guy, Wells and Richards had one RBI apiece.

 

Freshman Taylor Graven of Greene allowed just two hits and struck out six over three innings to come away with the win. Freshman Peyton Parker of La Porte City worked two innings, allowing two runs on two hits with one strikeout and one walk.

 

The DMACC softball team will play Marshalltown Community College (MCC) April 10 at the DMACC softball diamond. The first pitch is scheduled for 2 p.m.
