DMACC's Morgan Nealey Named ICCAC DII Player of the Week

The Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) has named Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC) softball player Morgan Nealey the ICCAC Division II Softball Player of the Week for the week of March 26 to April 1.

 

Nealey is the second DMACC softball player to be named Division II Player of the Week by the ICCAC. Freshman Avery Guy of Cedar Rapids earned the honor for the week of Feb. 12 to 18.

 

Nealey, a freshman from Urbandale, had eight hits in 11 at-bats in helping the Bears to sweeps of doubleheaders against the Simpson College junior varsity (SCJV) and Northeast (Neb.) Community College (NECC). Nealey had four hits in seven at-bats, scored one run and drove in three runs as DMACC defeated SCJV by scores of 4-0 and 11-0. Against NECC, Nealey had four hits in four at-bats, scored three runs and drove in three runs as the Bears swept the doubleheader, 11-0 and 11-2. Nealey hit .800 with runners in scoring position in the four games.

 

Nealey is batting .429 this season with 27 hits in 63 at-bats. She has a .463 on-base percentage and a .667 slugging percentage. Her 27 hits include three doubles and four home runs. She leads the Bears in runs batted in with 24 and has scored 10 runs.

 

The DMACC softball team, 20-0 and ranked second in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division II poll, faces Ellsworth Community College (ECC) in a doubleheader today at Creston. The Bears are 2-0 in the ICCAC. ECC is 8-12 overall and 2-2 in league play.
