Molly Jacobsen Pitching

Sophomore Molly Jacobsen of Adel threw a perfect game over five innings and struck out every batter she faced as the Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC) softball team defeated Southeastern (Neb.) Community College (SECC), 8-0, in the first game of a doubleheader March 18 at Beatrice, Neb.

The Bears, ranked second in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division II poll, also won the second game, 12-4, to improve to 14-0 for the season.

Jacobsen ran her record to 6-0 behind the 15 strikeouts. She faced 15 batters in the five-inning game and threw just 57 pitches, 46 of which were strikes.

DMACC provided Jacobsen with all the runs she needed in the first inning when the Bears scored three times. They closed out the win with five runs in the top of the third.

Freshman Morgan Nealey of Urbandale and sophomore Bailey Richards of Des Moines each homered in the win. Nealey had three hits and drove in two runs and sophomore Bre Hunter of Boone had a pair of hits, including a double, and drove in two runs.

Sophomore Taylor Briley of Creston had two hits, including a home run, and drove in four runs to pace DMACC in the second game. Freshman Jayci Vos of Monroe had three hits and Hunter and freshman Mia Ruther of Burlington came away with two hits apiece. Ruther, who doubled and tripled, also drove in a pair of runs.

Sophomore Gabby Schnathorst of Carlisle worked four innings and came away with the win. She allowed two runs on three hits, struck out five and walked one.
