Madison was a former University of Iowa graduate.  She grew up in Grimes, Iowa and attended Dallas Center Grimes high school.  At Dallas Center grimes she was a state champion in cross country and two years of track in the 800m.  She was a four time all state participant in cross country and a 16 time medalist in high school track and field.

After high school she attended the University of Missouri for a year before transferring to run at the University of Iowa.  At the University she finished her career in the all time top 10 list in the 6000m and 4000m during her cross country career.  She was also academic all big ten and a deans list student.  

Madison currently lives with her husband Michael in Grimes, Iowa with their daughter Claire.
