DMACC men's track and field team competes in Cyclone Open

 

Eleven members of the DMACC men's track and field team traveled to Ames on January 24 to compete in the Cyclone Open.

 

Freshmen Zach Stoermer of Des Moines, Eli Page of Vinton and Caden Brown of Muscatine and sophomore Pat Heffernan of Dunlap led the Bears with an eighth-place finish in the 4x400-meter relay. Their time was 3 minutes, 45.09 seconds.

 

Page garnered the Bears' best individual finish, placing 14th in the 800-meter run with a time of 1:57.14. Freshman Zach Stoermer of Des Moines also ran in the event and finished 20th with a time of 1:59.91.

 

Sophomore Owen Almelien of Greene ran in the 3000-meter run and finished in 21st place with a time of 8:59.37 and freshman Daniel Schoening of Ankeny was 32nd with a time of 9:38.35.

 

The Bears had seven runners in the mile run and Heffernan led the way, finishing 36th with a time of 4:36.20. Schoening placed 38th with a time of 4:37.13 and sophomore Will Thompson of Clive crossed the finish line in 40th place, posting a time of 4:39.36.

Sophomores Jordan King of Ogden and Jake Hitchcock of Johnston, freshman Hunter Landphair of Adel and freshman Eli Bergman of Hoffman, Minn., also competed in the mile and finished 43rd through 46th. King's time was 4:44.97, Hitchcock turned in a time of 4:45.36, Landphair crossed the finish line in 4:46.34 and Bergman's time was 4:56.02.

 

The DMACC men's track and field team will compete in the Iowa State Classic Feb. 8 at Ames.
