The DMACC men's golf team finished seventh in The Mustang Derby October 7 and 8 at Whispering Creek Golf Course in Sioux City.
The Bears posted rounds of 312 and 300 for a 36-hole score of 612, 17 strokes behind the winning total of 595 by Morningside University (MU). The University of Jamestown (UJ) finished second with 598 strokes and was followed by six members of the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC). Iowa Lakes Community College (ILCC) and Southwestern Community College (SWCC) tied for third with 608 strokes, Iowa Central Community College (ICCC) finished fifth with 609 strokes and Iowa Western Community College (IWCC) was sixth with 610 strokes. Hawkeye Community College (HCC) posted a two-round total of 613 and finished one stroke behind DMACC.
JU's Max Noffsinger took medalist honors with an even-par 144 over the par 72 layout.
DMACC was led by freshman Luke Linde of Winterset. Linde tied for 12th with a 36-hole score of 151 on rounds of 78 and 73. Freshman Ethan Nace of Iowa City posted rounds of 78 and 74 for a 152 total and tied for 17th and sophomore Lari Hakanen of Kerava, Finland, shot rounds of 79 and 75 for a 154 total, trying for 25th place.
Sophomore Caleb Ham of Hudson and freshman Zach Wilson of Ames closed out DMACC's performance with 33rd-place finish and a 62nd-place finish respectively. Ham shot rounds of 77 and 78 for a 36-hole score of 155 and Wilson turned in two rounds of 84 for a two-day total of 168.
The DMACC men's golf team will play in the Quad Cup Oct. 11 at a site to be determined.
