DMACC men's golf team ties for third in Iowa Central Fall Kickoff

The DMACC men's golf team came away with a tie for third place in the Iowa Central Fall Kickoff August 29 at the Fort Dodge Country Club in Fort Dodge.

 

The Bears posted a 303 in the 18-hole tournament, tying Iowa Lakes Community College (ILCC) for third place. Iowa Central Community College (ICCC) took the team championship with an 18-hole score of 279 and Hawkeye Community College (HCC) finished second at 298. ICCC's Justin Schipper and Austin Erickson shared medalist honors with three-under-par 68s.

 

DMACC was led by sophomore Sam Vertanen of Ames. Vertanen shot a one-over-par 72 and finished fourth in the individual competition.

 

Freshman Spencer Clatt of Gilbert turned in a 74, tying for seventh and freshman Calvin McNeeley of Pleasant Hill finished in the top 20 with a 76, tying for 16th place.

 

Other DMACC results included a 79 by freshman Layden Losh of Boone. Freshman Cole Johnson of Sioux City turned in an 80 and sophomore Ethan Gillis of Pickering, Ontario, Canada, had an 81. Freshmen Cade McGill of Johnston and Kaleb Allen of West Burlington rounded out DMACC's performance with an 82 and an 86 respectively.

 

Losh tied for 26th, Johnson tied for 29th, Gillis tied for 37th, McGill tied for 42nd and Allen tied for 51st.

The DMACC men's golf team will play in the NIACC Invite Sept. 8 at Mason City.
