The DMACC men's golf team finished in second place at the Hawkeye Invitational held at Fox Ridge Golf Course in Dike on Friday, October 2. They followed that up with a fourth place at the DMACC Invitational played at the Ames Golf and Country Club on Monday, October 5. The DMACC B squad took ninth place among the 13 teams competing.
Kirkwood Community College won the Hawkeye Invitational with an even par 288. DMACC finished four strokes over par with a 292, followed by Iowa Central Community College with a 293, Hawkeye Community College with a 299 and North Iowa Area Community College with a 310.
DMACC golfers Joe Dean of Cedar Falls took second place with a one under par 71. DMACC's Tyler Sansgaard of Nevada finished in a tie for eighth place with a one over 73. DMACC's Dylan Ellis of Aplington and Dylan Sporrer of Nevada tied for 13th with a 74. Other scores by DMACC golfers include a 77 by Logan Barnes of Altoona, a 79 by Ryan Leath of Glenwood and an 82 by Jack West of Winterset.
"Overall, we played okay," DMACC Head Men's Golf Coach Chris Seaboch said. "We really had visions of bringing home first place and came up a little short. I was happy to see Joe Dean finish under par. He has been improving all fall and am happy to see some of his hard work pay off."
At the DMACC Invitational on Monday, October 5, Iowa Western Community College won the tournament with a 2 over par 286. Indian Hills Community College was one shot back. DMACC captured fourth with a 302. The DMACC B squad finished in ninth place with a 319.
DMACC golfers Dylan Ellis and Jack West tied for tenth with 74s. Trevor Heinen of Waterloo finished in 13th place with a four over 75. Dylan Sporrer tied for 18th shooting a 76. Tyler Sansgaard tied for 23rd with a 77. Rounding out the DMACC scores were an 80 by Ryan Leath, an 82 by Logan Barnes and Joe Dean and an 83 by Ryan Nichols of Ogden.
"I was much happier with our effort overall on Monday at Ames," Seaboch said. "With tough windy conditions, I knew it would take a good team effort to finish well here, and we did. I thought breaking 300 would have been a very good day for us, and we came really close at 302. Not only that, but to come within 16 shots of both Iowa Western and Indian Hills shows we are growing. Both teams beat us by over 20 shots at the Indian Hills Invite, so to work our way closer to them is a credit to our team."
Seaboch said Dylan Ellis continues to lead the team.
"Tying for 10th place with another strong field says a lot about his game. He hasn't come close to his ceiling yet, but he's continuing to work his way there," Seaboch said. "It seems like the tougher things are, the better he plays. I was excited to see freshman Jack West tie for 10th as well playing as an individual. And happy with the day Trevor Heinen put together with his four over par 75. We have about six guys who could lead us on any given day, and that's what we want to see as a coach."
The DMACC Bears travel to Ames to compete in the Quad Cup on Sunday, October 11. The tournament will be played at the Coldwater Golf Links.
