DMACC men's golf team wins NJCAA Region XI Fall Preview

Sophomore Noah Hartman of Slater took medalist honors with an even-par 72 and freshman Dylan Sporrer of Nevada tied for second with a two-over-par 74 to lead the Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC) men's golf team to the team championship in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Region XI Fall Preview October 14 at Blue Top Ridge Golf Course in Riverside.

 

The Bears posted an 18-over-par score of 306 and came away with a two-stroke advantage over Kirkwood Community College (KCC). Northeast (Neb.) Community College (NENEB) finished third at 311.

 

Other DMACC scores included a 77 by sophomore Dylan Ellis of Aplington and 83s by freshmen Trevor Heinen of Waterloo and Ryan Leath of Glenwood. Ellis tied for seventh in the individual competition and Heinen and Leath tied for 24th.

 

DMACC freshmen Ryan Cole and Sam Balsley, both of Ames, competed in the individual portion of the tournament. Cole shot a 90 and tied for 44th place and Balsley shot 100 and finished in 54th place.

 

The tournament closed out the fall season for the DMACC men's golf team. The Bears won two other championships in addition to their NJCAA Region XI Fall Preview title. They took the NIACC Invitational on Sept. 12 at Mason City and won the Ottawa Invitational Sept. 23 and 24 at Lawrence, Kan.
