DMACC men's golf team wins second consecutive fall tournament

Men's Golf Wins Ottawa Tournament

The Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC) men's golf team added another championship to their fall resume by winning the Ottawa Fall Invitational September 23 and 24 at Lawrence, Kan.

 

The Bears, who won the team championship in the NIACC Invitational on Sept. 12, came from four strokes down to defeat Metropolitan Community College (MCC) and claim their second title in as many outings this fall.

 

DMACC shot a 298 in its first round and trailed MCC by four shots entering the second and final day of the tournament. The Bears posted a 289 to MCC's 313 and claimed the championship with a two-day total of 587. Cameron Cross of Ottawa University won medalist honors with a 36-hole score of one-under-par 143.

 

All five DMACC players finished seventh or better. Freshman Dylan Sporrer of Nevada led the Bears with a two-day total of 145 behind rounds of 75 and 70 and tied Murphy Scott of MCC for runner-up honors in the individual competition.

 

Sophomore Dylan Ellis of Aplington tied for fourth, freshman Trevor Heinen of Waterloo tied for fifth and sophomore Noah Hartman of Slater and freshman Ryan Leath of Glenwood tied for seventh. Ellis finished at 146 on rounds of 74 and 72, Heinen posted a 147 on rounds of 75 and 72, Hartman shot scores of 74 and 78 for a 152 and Leath was at 152 on rounds of 77 and 75.

 

DMACC sophomore Ryan Cole and freshman Sam Balsley, both of Ames, competed in the individual portion of the tournament. Cole shot rounds of 83 and 82 for a 165 and tied for 24th place. Balsley posted scores of 78 and 89 for a 177 and tied for 30th place.

 

The DMACC men's golf team will play in the Quad Cup Sept. 28 at Honey Creek Golf Course in Boone.
