DMACC men's golf team finishes second in NJCAA Region XI Championship

The Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC) men's golf team closed out the 2018-19 spring season with a second-place finish in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Region XI Championship May 6 at Veenker Memorial Golf Course in Ames.

 

The Bears entered the second day of the 36-hole tournament in second place, six strokes behind Kirkwood Community College (KCC) and posted a score of 313 for a two-day total of 623. KCC shot a 299 and won the team championship with a 603. KCC's James Morgan took medalist honors with a three-over-par 147 after shooting a 76 on his final round.

 

DMACC was led by sophomores Kolby Chup of Des Moines and Louis Psihoyos of Dubuque. Chup posted an 80 on his final round for a 36-hole score of 153, trying for fifth place. Psihoyos shot a 74 and tied for seventh with a 36-hole score of 154.

 

Other DMACC results saw freshman Noah Hartman of Slater finish 11th, freshman Dylan Ellis of Aplington tied for 19th and sophomore Dylan Scheffler of Sac City finished in 22nd place. Hartman turned in a 79 on the second day for a two-day score of 155. Ellis shot an 80 and finished at 161 and Scheffler finished at 163 after shooting an 82 on the second day.
