DMACC men's golf team finishes second in ICCAC Spring Preview

The Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC) men's golf team came away with a second-place finish in the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) Spring Preview April 8 at Veenker Memorial Golf Course in Ames.

 

Kirkwood Community College (KCC), which finished one stroke behind the Bears in their win in the Wartburg Spring Invite April 5 and 6, took the team championship with 295 strokes and DMACC was second at 298. KCC's George Kalpakes won the individual competition with a one-under-par 71, edging DMACC sophomore Louis Psihoyos of Dubuque by two strokes. Psihoyos finished in a three-way tie for second.

 

Other DMACC scores included a 74 by freshman Dylan Ellis of Aplington, a 75 by sophomore Kolby Chup of Des Moines and 76s by sophomore Dylan Scheffler of Sac City and freshman Noah Hartman of Slater. Ellis tied for sixth, Chup tied for eight and Scheffler and Hartman tied for 11th.

 

DMACC sophomores Tyler Wierson of Ames, Drew Fielder of Webster City, Noah Wilkening of Perry and Connor Shannon of Webster City and freshman Ryan Cole of Ames also played in the tournament. Wierson shot 77 and tied for 14th, Fielder tied for 24th after shooting an 80, Wilkening posted an 81 and tied for 26, Shannon shot 83 and tied for 28th and Cole finished in 38th place with an 86.

 

The DMACC men's golf team will play in the Iowa Central Spring Invitational April 14 and 15 at Fort Dodge.
