DMACC men's golf team wins Wartburg Spring Invite

Wartburg Invite Champions

The Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC) men's golf team won their first spring tournament of the season in their first tournament of the spring season.

The Bears were suppose to have opened the season March 29 and 30 in the Graceland Invitational, but that event was cancelled because of inclement weather. So DMACC opened the season in the Wartburg Spring Invite April 5 and 6 at Waverly and came away with the team championship.

The Bears turned in a 36-hole score of 584 and edged Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) rival Kirkwood Community College (KCC) by one stroke. Southwestern Community College (SWCC) finished third with a 586 and Iowa Lakes Community College (ILCC) was fourth at 598.

DMACC opened with a 286 and led KCC by two strokes. The Bears turned in a 298 on the second day and KCC posted a 297. Reinhardt Saunderson of SWCC took medalist honors with a 36-hole score of 141, three under par.

Sophomores Kolby Chup of Des Moines and Louis Psihoyos of Dubuque and freshman Dylan Ellis of Aplington led DMACC with one-over-par scores of 145 and tied for fifth place in the individual competition. Chup shot rounds of 73 and 72, Psihoyos turned in rounds of 75 and 70 and Ellis posted scores of 70 and 75.

Other DMACC results saw freshman Noah Hartman of Slater tie for 19th place and Sophomore Dylan Scheffler of Sac City tied for 35th place. Hartman shot rounds of 68 and 84 for a 36-hole total of 152 and Scheffler turned in a 78 and an 81 for a 159.
