DMACC men's golf team places second  in ICCAC Fall Preview

Sophomore Louis Psihoyos of Dubuque tied for medalist honors with an even-par 144 over 36 holes and led the Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC) men's golf team to a second-place finish in the ICCAC Fall Preview September 23 and 24 at Veenker Memorial Golf Course in Ames.

 

Kirkwood Community College (KCC) won the team championship with a 36-hole score of 591 and DMACC finished second at 612. Both teams carded a 304 on the second day of the competition, but KCC posted a 287 on the first day while DMACC shot a 308.

KCC's Ryan Morrison tied Psihoyos for medalist honors, carding rounds of 71 and 73. Psihoyos shot 74 in his first round and shot a two-under-par 70 on the second day.

 

Other DMACC scores included a 148 by sophomore Tyler Wierson of Ames, a 154 by freshman Noah Hartman of Slater, a pair of 156s by sophomores Connor Shannon of Webster City and Noah Wilkening of Perry, a 157 by sophomore Kolby Chup of Des Moines and a 158 by freshman Dylan Ellis of Aplington.

 

Wierson shot rounds of 76 and 72, finishing fourth overall, and Hartman tied for 14th behind rounds of 74 and 80. Shannon posted scores of 81 and 85 and Wilkening shot rounds of 80 and 76 as both tied for 19th place. Chup finished 21st on rounds of 80 and 77 and Ellis tied for 22nd after shooting scores of 80 and 78.

 

Other DMACC results included sophomore Dylan Scheffler of Sac City finishing in 26th place, freshman Keygan Hansen of Marshalltown tied for 29th and sophomore Drew Fielder of Webster City tied for 32nd. Scheffler turned in scores of 81 and 79 for a 160, Hansen shot rounds of 80 and 82 for a 162 and Fielder posted scores of 86 and 78 for a 36-hole total of 164.

 

DMACC also got a tie for 34th from freshman Jacob Hesner of Winthrop and a 43rd-place finish from freshman Ryan Cole of Ames. Hesner shot rounds of 82 and 83 for a 165 and Cole turned in scores of 81 and 90 for a 171.

 

The DMACC men's golf team will play in the Grand View Invitational Oct. 1 and 2 at the Tournament Club of Iowa in Polk City.
