Psihoyos leads DMACC men's golf team to championship in NIACC Invitational

Sophomore Louis Psihoyos of Dubuque posted a four-under-par 68 to lead the Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC) men's golf team to the team championship in the NIACC Invitational September 10 at Mason City.

 

The tournament was the fall opener for the DMACC team.

 

The Bears completed tournament play with a seven-under-par 281, seven strokes ahead of Southwestern Community College (SWCC), which shot an even-par 288. Psihoyos took medalist honors, finishing two strokes ahead of DMACC sophomore Dylan Scheffler of Sac City, who posted a two-under-par 70.

 

Other DMACC results included a 71 by freshman Noah Hartman of Slater, a 72 by freshman Dylan Ellis of Aplington and a 74 by sophomore Kolby Chup of Des Moines. Hartman tied for fourth in the individual competition, Ellis tied for sixth and Chup tied for tenth.

 

DMACC sophomores Drew Fielder of Webster City, Connor Shannon of Webster City, Tyler Wierson of Ames and Noah Wilkening of Perry competed in the individual portion of the tournament along with freshmen Ryan Cole of Ames, Keegan Hansen of Marshalltown and Jacob Hesner of Winthrop. Shannon and Hansen led the group with rounds of 75 and tied for 13th place. Hesner tied for 19th behind a 76, Wierson tied for 22nd after posting a 77, Wilkening tied for 24th on a round of 78 and Cole and Fielder each shot a 79 and tied for 27th.

 

The DMACC men's golf team will play in the Men's Fall Preview Sept. 23 and 24 at Veenker Memorial Golf Course in Ames.
