DMACC men's golf team finishes 11th in national championship

The Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC) men's golf team finished 11th in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division II Championship May 21 to 24 at Glen Lakes Golf Club in Foley, Ala.

 

The Bears posted their third consecutive 302 in the final round on May 24 and completed the tournament with a 72 hole total of 1,216 strokes, three strokes behind No. 10 Rend Lake College (RLC).

 

Sophomore Alec Fuhs of Webster City shot a 2-over-par 74 on his final round and led DMACC with a 72-hole total of 297, trying for 27th place in the individual competition. Freshman Kolby Chup of Des Moines posted a 75 on his last trip around the course and finished in a tie for 47th place at 304. Sophomores Robert Flattery of Fort Dodge, Parker Davidson of Pleasant Hill and Avery Fuhs of Webster City tied for 55th, 71st and 78th respectively. Flattery shot 78 in the fourth round and posted a 72-hole total of 306; Davidson was at 312 after 76 in the final round; and Avery Fuhs shot 77 and finished the tournament with 317 strokes.

 

Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College (MGCCC) won the team championship with 1,150 strokes after shooting a 279 on the last day. Leon D'Souza of South Mountain Community College (SMCC) took tournament medalist honors with an eight-under-par 280.

 

The tournament concluded the spring season for the DMACC men's golf team.
