Bears in the Pros

Vaclav Bujnoch

 

 

 

 

 

 

Vaclav Bujnoch (6'7''-C-1993, played in 2011-14, plays pro in Czech Republic) could not help Novy Jicin (12-11) in their last game. Despite his very good performance the third-placed Novy Jicin (12-11) lost 82-91 on the road to the lower-ranked (#5) Radotin in the Places 7-12 group. Bujnoch was the top scorer with 36 points. He also added 8 rebounds in 36 minutes. Bujnoch's team will play only one more game in the Second Stage. And that game will be critical. Bujnoch has individually a very good year with high stats. He averages 15.9ppg, 9.6rpg, 2.4apg and 1.1spg in 20 games he played so far.

 


Tray Buchanan

 

 

Tray Buchanan (6'2''-G-1998, played in 2018-19, plays in France) led Stade Rochelais Basket to an easy victory against the closely-ranked Etoile Angers (3-3) crushing them 79-56 in the French ProB (second division) last Friday. Buchanan scored 12 points, grabbed 4 boards, passed 5 assists and added 3 steals. It was the game of the round between two top 4 ranked teams. Stade Rochelais Basket (20-3) is placed first in the ProB. This season Buchanan has very high stats. He averages 17.8ppg, 2.5rpg, 3.1apg and 1.5spg.

 


Brandon Nazione

Brandon Nazione (6'8''-PF-1994, played in 2013-14, currently in Uruguay) played at DMACC from 2012-2014. As a sophomore, Nazione helped lead the Bears to an outright ICCAC conference championship, the Region 11 championship, and an Elite 8 appearance at the NJCAA National Tournament. He was a two time All-Conference player, and named NJCAA All-American after his sophomore campaign. After DMACC, he transferred to Eastern Michigan University.  managed to help Goes Montevideo in a victory against the fifth-ranked Urupan (7-17) 92-78 in the Uruguayan LUB on Monday night. He scored only 3 points, grabbed 4 rebounds and dished 5 assists in 20 minutes. Goes Montevideo (8-16) is placed fourth in Places 7-12 group. It was his team's third consecutive victory in a row. There are only four games left until the end of the Second Stage. So now every game is very crucial. Nazione has very impressive stats this year 15.5ppg, 6.3rpg and 2.0apg in eight games. He is a naturalized Italian.


Brandon Lawani

 

Brandon Lawani (6'7''-F, played in 2017-18, plays pro in Albania) contributed to an easy victory against the ninth-ranked Elbasani (5-11) crushing them 103-58 in the Albanian Superliga in Saturday night's game. He recorded 7 points and grabbed 9 rebounds. KB Teuta Durres (11-5) is placed fourth in the Superliga. It was his team's fourth consecutive victory in a row. There are only four games left until the end of the Regular Season. So now every game will be important. It's Lawani's first season with the team. This year Lawani averages 7.3ppg, 6.8rpg, 1.2apg and 1.8spg.


Baylee Steele

Baylee Steele (7'0''-C-1997, played in 2015-16, plays in Japan) was the major contributor in a Gifu Swoops' victory against the league outsider Kanazawa (6-29) crushing them 98-73 in the Japanese B3 League last Saturday. Steele had a double-double by scoring 22 points and getting 10 rebounds. He also added 5 assists in 24 minutes. Gifu Swoops (18-26) are placed 11th in the B3 League. It was his team's first victory after three consecutive loses. It's Steele's first season with the team. Steele has very impressive stats this year 19.3ppg, 11.3rpg and 1.4apg in 34 games.

 

 


Kannon Burrage

Kannon Burrage played at DMACC from 2009-2011. He helped lead the Bears to a record of 45-15 in his two years in a Bear uniform. He was a two time All-Conference player, attaining first team his sophomore season.  Burrage led the conference his sophomore year by scoring 20.7 points per game. After DMACC, he transferred to the University of Texas-San Antonio. He has play professionally in Slovenia, Singapore, Thailand and currently playing a local team in Australia. Burrage currently works for the local association and runs his own basketball business called the Breakfast Club.


John Holmes


John Holmes played at DMACC during the 2006-07 season. While only playing one season for the Bears, Holmes was in an integral part of DMACC's National Tournament run and helped the Bears tie a school record in wins with 31. After DMACC, Holmes attended Bethune-Cookman, where he finished up his college play career. Holmes is currently playing basketball professionally in Luxembourg.

Al Stewart

 
Al Stewart played for the Bears during the 2004-05 season. He helped lead DMACC to the Region XI Championship game that season and a runner-up finish in the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference. The Bears finished the year 27-6 and 11-3 in league play and ranked fifth in the final NJCAA Poll. Stewart was named first team all-conference and Honorable Mention All-American. Stewart finished his collegiate career at Drake University in Des Moines. 

Ian Young

Ian Young

Ian Young played at DMACC from 2001-03. He was part of DMACC's Final Four team in the 2001-02 season. During his sophomore campaign, Young was named a 2nd Team All-American. After his time at DMACC, Young transferred to Auburn University where he finished up his collegiate playing career. Ian still holds Auburn's record for highest free throw percentage (85.7%). Ian recently retired from professional basketball after playing in 16 different countries in 13 years. 


Shelton Colwell


Shelton Colwell was part of Coach Orv Salmon's initial recruiting class. He helped DMACC compile an overall record of 60-10, back to back conference titles and helped the 2001-02 team to the NJCAA Final Four. A two time All-American, Colwell moved on to play Division I Basketball at Southwest Missouri State (now Missouri State).
