DMACC's Zach Lester named ICCAC Athlete of the Week

The Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) has named Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC) men's basketball player Zach Lester the ICCAC Athlete of the Week for Division II men's basketball for the week of January 27 to February 2.

 

The honor is the second of the season for Lester, a sophomore from Clear Lake. He was also named ICCAC Athlete of the Week for Division II men's basketball for the time period of Dec. 16 to Jan. 5.

 

Lester began the week with a double-double, scoring 17 points and coming away with 12 rebounds in a 74-62 win over Central (Neb.) Community College (CNCC) on Jan. 28. He then scored a game-high 22 points and grabbed five rebounds in the Bears' 77-69 win over North Iowa Area Community College (NIACC) on Feb. 1.

 

For the season, Lester is averaging 14.3 points and 3.7 rebounds a game. He has scored 330 points and is shooting 48 percent from the field, having made 122 of 255 field goal attempts. Lester is 38-of-116 from three-point range for 33 percent and has made 48 of 72 free throw attempts for 67 percent. His season also includes 86 rebounds, including 59 defensive rebounds, 54 assists and team-leading 50 steals.

 

The DMACC men's basketball team, 22-3 on the season and ranked seventh in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division II poll, faces 12th-ranked Kirkwood Community College (KCC) Feb. 12 at Cedar Rapids. DMACC leads the ICCAC at 8-1. KCC is 18-5 overall and 7-2 in conference play. The Bears defeated the Eagles, 78-58, when the two teams played Jan. 15 inside the DMACC gymnasium.
