Lester's 22 points lead DMACC men's basketball team to 105-71 win

Sophomore Zach Lester of Clear Lake scored 22 points, grabbed three rebounds, dished out two assists and added two steals to lead the Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC) men's basketball team to a 105-71 win over the Simpson College junior varsity (SCJV) November 9 inside the DMACC gymnasium.

 

Sophomores Demarion Bariffe-Smith of Skokie, Ill., and Barlow Alleruzzo of Chicago, Ill., and freshman Ryan Schmitt of Van Meter joined Lester in double figures with 17, 14 and 10 points respectively as the Bears improved to 2-1 for the season.

 

DMACC took a 56-31 lead into halftime and never looked back. The Bears shot 52 percent from the field, hitting 40 of 77 field goal attempts. They were 11-of-28 from three-point range and 14-of-15 from the free throw line.

 

Alleruzzo finished with a double-double with 11 rebounds, all on the defensive glass, as DMACC came away with a 55-32 advantage in rebounding. Freshman Willie Guy of Cedar Rapids dished out 11 assists to go with nine points and joined Lester with a pair of steals. Schmitt also had two steals in the win.

 

The DMACC men's basketball team will face the William Penn University junior varsity (WPUJV) Nov. 12 inside the DMACC gymnasium. Game time is 7:30 p.m.
