DMACC men's basketball team falls to SENEB in season opener

Sophomore Demarion Bariffe-Smith of Skokie, Ill., led five players in double figures with 24 points as the Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC) men's basketball team dropped a 113-110 decision to Southeast (Neb.) Community College (SENEB) November 2 at Beatrice, Neb., in the Bears' season opener.

 

Freshman Willie Guy of Cedar Rapids had 23 points and 11 assists in the loss, sophomores Zach Lester of Clear Lake and Barlow Alleruzzo of Chicago, Ill., added 17 and 16 points respectively and sophomore Ty Majlik-Autry of St. Petersburg, Fla., finished with 10 points.

 

SENEB led at halftime, 53-44.

 

DMACC shot 46 percent, hitting 37 of 80 field goal attempts. The Bears were 11-of-27 from three-point range and made 25 of 36 free throw attempts.

 

Majlik-Autry and freshman John Herrick of Boone grabbed nine rebounds apiece and Bariffe-Smith came away with eight, leading DMACC to a 48-40 advantage on the boards. Lester led the Bears in steals with two and sophomore Jai Bijiek of Des Moines recorded three blocked shots.

 

The DMACC men's basketball team will face the Graceland University junior varsity today inside the DMACC gymnasium. Game time is 7:30 p.m.
