Loss to KCC ends season for DMACC men's basketball team

The Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC) men's basketball team saw its season come to a close following an 87-77 loss to Kirkwood Community College (KCC) March 7 at Cedar Rapids.

 

The loss came in the semifinals of the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Region XI Division II Men's Basketball Championship.

 

Sophomores Tray Buchanan of East Moline, Ill., and DeShawn Davidson of Waukegan, Ill., scored 21 and 19 points respectively as the Bears ended play at 22-10. Sophomore Devonta Prince of Brooklyn Center, Minn., and freshman Vinny Tarello of Bolingbrook, Ill., tallied nine points apiece.

 

KCC, which was 13-of-22 from three-point range, led 40-32 at halftime.

 

The Bears shot 39 percent in the game, hitting 28 of 71 field goal attempts. They were 8-of-27 from three-point range and 13-of-19 from the free throw line.

 

KCC had a 36-28 advantage on the boards with sophomore Zaire Swaby of Brooklyn, N.Y., leading DMACC with seven rebounds. Prince came away with six and sophomore Dyllan Robinson of Las Vegas, Nev., had five. Davidson led the Bears in assists with four and Prince topped DMACC in steals with five.
