DMACC men's basketball team falls to Kirkwood, 94-78

The Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC) men's basketball team dropped a 94-78 decision to Kirkwood Community College (KCC) Feb. 21 inside the DMACC gymnasium.

 

The loss was the ninth of the season for the Bears against 18 victories. DMACC is 5-6 in the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC).

 

KCC led at the half, 46-33.

 

DMACC was led by sophomore Tray Buchanan of East Moline, who scored a game-high 30 points. Sophomore DeShawn Davidson of Waukegan, Ill., tallied 19 points and sophomore Dyllan Robinson of Las Vegas, Neb., had 15 points.

 

The Bears shot 39 percent, draining 25 of 64 field goal attempts. They were 4-of-20 from three-point range and 24-of-33 from the free throw line.

 

KCC came away with a 46-39 advantage on the boards with Robinson and sophomore Devonta Prince of Brooklyn Center, Minn., pulling down seven rebounds apiece to lead DMACC. Buchanan added six rebounds. Davidson dished out a team-high three assists and Buchanan, Robinson and freshman Vinny Tarello of Bolingbrook, Ill., had two apiece.

 

The DMACC men's basketball team will face North Iowa Area Community College (NIACC) February 25 at Mason City. The game was originally scheduled for Feb. 23 but has been moved to Feb. 25 because of inclement weather projected for Feb. 23. NIACC is 22-3 overall and leads the ICCAC at 11-1. The Trojans defeated DMACC, 106-100, Jan. 16 inside the DMACC gymnasium.
