Lester's 28 points leads DMACC men's basketball team past Simpson JV

Sophomore Zach Lester of Clear Lake scored a career-high 28 points to lead the Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC) to a 112-62 win over the Simpson College junior varsity Feb. 15 inside the DMACC gymnasium.

 

Lester drained nine of 13 field goal attempts, including 2-of-4 from three-point range, and was 8-of-9 from the free throw line as the Bears improved to 18-8 for the season.

 

Sophomore Dyllan Robinson of Las Vegas, Nev., scored 18 points for DMACC and sophomores DeShawn Davidson of Waukegan, Ill., Devonta Prince of Brooklyn Center, Minn., and Quinton Taylor of Cedar Point, Texas, and freshman Makai Muhammad of Ames tallied 10 points apiece.

 

DMACC led 57-26 at halftime.

 

The Bears shot 57 percent, hitting 45 of 79 field goal attempts, including 8-of-22 from three-point range. They were 14-of-20 from the free throw line.

 

Taylor came away with a double-double with 10 rebounds as the Bears had a 54-27 advantage on the boards. Sophomore Ray Miller of Davenport had nine rebounds and Davidson finished with seven. Freshman Vinny Tarello of Bolingbrook, Ill., dished out 10 assists in the win and sophomore Tray Buchanan of East Moline, Ill., Miller and Lester had three steals apiece.

 

The Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC) men's basketball team will host Kirkwood Community College (KCC) Feb. 20 inside the DMACC gymnasium. Game time is 7:30 p.m. KCC, ranked fourth in the most recent Division II poll from the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA), is 21-4 overall and 9-2 in the ICCAC. The Eagles defeated the Bears, 92-76, when the team teams played Jan. 9 at Cedar Rapids.
