DMACC men's basketball team falls to SWCC, beats ECC

The Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC) men's basketball team recorded a loss and a victory in Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) play Feb. 6 and 9.

 

Sophomore DeShawn Davidson of Waukegan, Ill., scored 26 points and sophomores Tray Buchanan of East Moline, Ill., and Dyllan Robinson of Las Vegas, Nev., had 20 points apiece as the Bears dropped a 105-102 decision to Southwestern Community College (SWCC) Feb. 6 at Creston. Buchanan tallied 18 points and Davidson and sophomore Devonta Prince of Brooklyn Center, Minn., scored 13 and 11 points respectively in a 74-47 win over Ellsworth Community College (ECC) Feb. 9 inside the DMACC gymnasium.

 

DMACC led SWCC, 56-53, at the half, but let the game slip away in the second half when the Bears were outscored 52-46.

 

The split gives DMACC an overall record of 17-7 and a 5-4 mark in the ICCAC.

 

DMACC shot 47 percent in defeating ECC for the second time this season, connecting on 28 of 60 field goal attempts. The Bears were 11-of-24 from three-point range and 7-of-12 from the free throw line.

 

Sophomores Dyllan Robinson of Las Vegas, Nev., and Ray Miller of Davenport grabbed eight rebounds apiece to lead DMACC to a 45-37 advantage on the boards. Buchanan added six rebounds and Prince and sophomore Zaire Swaby of Brooklyn, N.Y., had five each. Robinson dished out a team-high five assists and freshman Zach Lester of Clear Lake had three steals.
