Bears fall to Trojans in shootout

The Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC) men's basketball team fell to 11-5 overall and 1-3 in the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) following a 106-100 loss to North Iowa Area Community College (NIACC) January 16 inside the DMACC gymnasium.

 

NIACC, ranked 15th in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division II poll, led by as many as 13 points in the first half before settling for a 60-51 advantage at halftime. DMACC, which got a team-high 23 points from sophomore Tray Buchanan of East Moline, Ill., closed to within three points early in the second half, but never got closer than six points the rest of the way and trailed by as many as 17 points.

 

Sophomore DeShawn Davidson of Waukegan, Ill., scored 18 points for DMACC, freshman Vinny Tarello of Bolingbrook, Ill., finished with 17 points and sophomores Devonta Prince of Brooklyn Center, Minn., and Dyllan Robinson of Las Vegas, Neb., scored 12 and 10 points respectively.

 

The Bears shot 52 percent, making 37 of 71 field goal attempts. They were 9-of-20 from three-point range and 17-of-25 from the free throw line.

 

DMACC came away with a 38-33 advantage in rebounding with Robinson and sophomore Zaire Swaby of Brooklyn, N.Y. leading the Bears with 11 rebounds apiece. Davidson had team-high five assists and Prince led the way in steals with three.

 

The DMACC men's basketball team will face Ellsworth Community College (ECC) January 19 at Iowa Falls. ECC is 5-13 overall and 0-3 in the ICCAC.
